Claude Berrou

Dr. Claude Berrou is the sole discoverer of turbo codes, which opened new avenue of research that have led to modern advances in mobile telephone, satellite and radio communications. Professor of Electrical Engineering at École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Bretagne, now IMT Atlantique, Dr. Berrou is the 2005 Marconi Prize winner. He has received numerous other awards including the SEE Ampère Medal, the Golden Jubilee Award for Technological Innovation of IEEE Information Theory Society, the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal and the French Grand Prix France Télécom of Académie des sciences.
