Presented by: HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, at The Royal Society of Arts, London.

Dr. Inose invented the time-slot interchange system, a key technology for digital telephone switches and integrated service digital networks. From 1987 to 2000, he was Director General of the National Center for Science Information Systems, the predecessor of the National Institute for Informatics, Ministry of Education, Japan and Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo.
