What is the Impact?
As people age, their accessibility needs shift. While there is currently work being done by aging associations to consider accessibility hurdles faced by aging persons, getting local and federal support along with funding for greater, community informed, innovation in this area is important. This includes considering the skills gap and as well as assessment methods to understand the emerging needs of older adults.
Why is this difficult?
Accessibility for aging populations is difficult because of the limited knowledge and research into what these populations need and how their needs are complex and content based. Needs from accessibility to enable healthcare services, to affordability, to the existence of infrastructure create different groups of older adults who have different levels of disconnectedness.
