Accessibility Challenge 2: How do we continue to support work from home/ remote work options and technologies that emphasize the opportunities it creates for those who might not be able to come into a traditional office/ workspace?

What is the Impact?

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a shift in corporate support for work from home/ remote positions. This has provided an opportunity for workers who might have not applied or pursued certain positions to access them from a comfortable space. There is still a need, however, to pay increased attention to the huge potential utility and continued presence of weakness of online tools to make accommodations for people with disabilities. These tools not only need to be improved, but they should continue to focus on making these tools accessible, available, affordable, and reliable. How do these devices serve people who need additional assistance and accommodation?

Why is this difficult?

Software and hardware development remain behind in considering and consulting those who require different means of accessibility. Often, software is designed without the input of those for whom it is intended to serve making deployment and widespread use expensive and slow.
