The Marconi Society is proud to recognize leaders in the field of advanced communication and information technology in service of digital inclusion.

The Marconi Prize is awarded based on the candidate’s contributions in the following areas:

  • The significance of the impact of the nominee’s work on widely-used technology.
  • The scientific importance of the nominee’s work in setting the stage for, influencing, and advancing the field beyond the nominee’s own achievements.
  • The nominee’s contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship by introducing completely new ideas, methods, or technologies. These may include forming, leading, or advising organizations, mentoring students on moving ideas from research to implementation, or fostering new industries/enabling scale implementation.
  • The social and humanitarian impact of the nominee’s contributions to the design, development, and/or deployment of new communication technologies or communications public policies that promote social development and/or inclusiveness.

You will need to have the following:

  • The current address and contact information for the candidate
  • A proposed award citation for the nominee (20 words)
  • Statement of the candidate’s primary field of contribution
  • The nominee’s curriculum vitae
  • Contributions of Record, which are the nominee’s publication list (including patents)
  • A list of awards and honors received by the nominee
  • A description of the the impact of the nominee’s work on widely-used technologies, the scientific impact of the work, the nominee’s contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship and the social and humanitarian impact of the nominee’s innovations (500 words for each element)
  • At least two letters of references, in addition to the nomination, from recognized individuals who have substantial knowledge of the candidate’s work (up to five are permitted). No more than two of the nominator/references can have been affiliated with the candidate’s institution(s) in the past five years

Use the form below to nominate a candidate for the Marconi Prize.

The Marconi Prize is awarded to established scientists who have created and scaled our connected world.  Nominees are recognized for their impacts on widely-used technology, the scientific importance of their work, their entrepreneurial contributions, and the applicability of their work to social and humanitarian efforts. We seek diverse candidates with exceptional records who will bring an engaged, socially conscious perspective to the Marconi Society community and its work to expand digital inclusion through information and communications technology.

All candidates must be nominated by a colleague.
 

Please have all documents ready to upload in a single session, as there is no ability to save a partially completed nomination. Nominations should be submitted using the online nomination form below.  If needed, we will accept emailed letters of reference separately, sent to info@marconisociety.org, as long as they are received by the deadline. The Marconi Prize recipient and nominator will be notified in early 2025.

Proposed Citation Instructions
Suggest the citation text to be used to recognize the major achievements of your candidate. The citation should refer only to achievements and qualities related to the Marconi Prize criteria. It should be readily understandable and free of technical jargon. (20 word maximum)
Pinpoint the area in which the candidate had the most impact. (150 word maximum)
Technical Contributions and Accomplishments Instructions
List your candidate’s achievements as they relate to the selection criteria listed on the nomination form. Please cite specific accomplishments of the individual candidate rather than the organization represented. (500 word maximum)
Scientific Importance Instructions
How has the candidate’s work set the stage for, influenced and advanced the field beyond the candidate’s own achievements? (500 word maximum)
Impact on Technology Instructions
Describe how the candidate's engineering accomplishments have had significant impact on widely-used technology. (500 word maximum)
Innovation and Entrepreneurship Instructions
Describe how the candidate's contributions are innovative, introducing completely new ideas, methods, or technologies. Entrepreneurial contributions can include:
- Forming, leading and / or advising companies or other organizations
- Advising and mentoring students about how to move ideas from research to implementation
- Fostering new industries or new communications standards that enable scale implementation and / or adoption (500 word maximum)
Social and Humanitarian Impact Instructions
Describe the measurable positive impact the candidate has had on a community as a leader in the design, development and / or deployment of new communications technologies or public policies that promote social development, educate the next generation of innovators, reduce the impact of disasters, conflicts or social crises and promote ethical and inclusive principles. (500 word maximum)
Please provide contact data for all references. At least two letters of reference are required in addition to the nomination and up to five letters are permitted. No more than two of the nominator/references can be affiliated with the candidate’s institution(s) in the past 5 years.
