Vint Cerf at Columbia University on governance

Marconi Fellow and Vice-Chair Vint Cerf will be webcast from Columbia University at 9:00 a.m. New York time Thursday May 14. Vint writes “I will be focused on the IANA transition and its implications, on the continuing need for improved security practices in the Internet, and the importance of multi-stakeholder policy development.” His keynote opens the Conference on Internet Governance & Cyber-security. He’ll be joined by Larry Strickling of the U.S. Department of Congress and American University Professor Laura DeNardis (pictured) Laura Denardis. Strickling leads the U.S. Government work on transition of ICANN and has just presented his views on the plans.

It’s an interesting two day event. At 11:30, ICANN CEO Fadi Chehadé, former CEO Paul Twomey and Internet Society President Kathy Brown will take the stage. The afternoon will feature a number of free speech advocates. Friday, May 15 at 9:00 a.m., Michael Chertoff, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, speaks. Respected technologists Herb Lin, Steve Bellovin and Henning Schulzrinne are also on the program. Complete schedule

Special thanks to Joly MacFie and the Internet Society for the webcast.
