Please meet Gianluca and Vincente.

What is your vision for the Marconi Society?

    Gianluca:

Guglielmo Marconi not only pioneered the invention of radio but also conceptualized a novel approach to communication and service distribution. What we now commonly refer to as the “cloud” was a fundamental concept in Marconi’s model for disseminating radiotelegraph services through Marconi company employees. I believe that the Marconi Society should persist in promoting Marconi’s ideas and seek partnerships with entities interested in advancing their dissemination and implementation.

    Vincente:

The Marconi Society has evolved significantly over the past century and the need for organizations with our mission is more urgent than ever.

I look forward to working with the Marconi Society’s distinguished leadership team to break down barriers to connectivity and to create a better world for future generations.  I  am proud to help the Marconi Society become more diverse and to bring European and global perspectives to the organization.

Why are you excited to be part of the Marconi Society board?

      Gianluca:

Since 1993, I have been involved with the Guglielmo Marconi Foundation, collaborating actively. I persist in my efforts to create opportunities that commemorate Marconi and advocate for his ideas. Being a part of the Marconi Society enables me to explore new, more significant, and international avenues to honor Marconi’s legacy. Additionally, it allows me to actively pursue Marconi’s vision for enhancing the quality of connectivity, services, and, more broadly, people’s socialization and collaboration.

      Vicente:

At this moment in my life, I want to work with international colleagues, particularly in the areas that align with the focus of the Marconi Society. I find it exciting and valuable to devote a portion of my time to collaborating with fellow Board Members from diverse global backgrounds, each bringing unique professional and life experiences. Our focus is on strategizing ways to achieve the mission of the Marconi Society.

What unique skills or expertise will you use to move our organization forward?

        Gianluca:

I have gained experience in implementing strategies to disseminate connectivity, data center services, and platform services in areas facing market failure. I believe it is important to advance a vision of a world without disparities, and I see ICT as the means to implement it. I have expertise in securing funds in this direction and maximizing their utilization.

        Vicente:

With a longstanding career at Telefonica, a Spanish telecommunications company operating across Europe and Latino América, I’ve been a trailblazer in deploying cutting-edge networks and services. From pioneering Ultra Broadband to leading IP/MPLS and IPTV implementations, my role has spanned diverse areas like Supply Chain, negotiating over 25 B€ annually. As a Digital Transformation Officer, I’ve optimized costs while enhancing quality. My varied background brings international experience from private sector technology deployment, emphasizing the importance of diverse perspectives. Lastly, I bring the richness of the Latin culture to the Marconi Society, originating from Spain.  Siavash Alamouti, the 2022 Marconi Prize recipient, highlighted this cultural richness during the Gala, particularly in his experiences with Dr. Rafael Macías.

How do you foresee shaping the future of digital equity?

          Gianluca:

Striving to be always innovative, seeking in the past, present, and future the best solution in terms of direct implementability, future-proofing, and adaptability to user needs. Furthermore, I believe it is essential to work on the neutrality of solutions and the digital sustainability of each initiative.

          Vicente:

From my experience, the collaboration between private and public entities is crucial, particularly in infrastructure development. Each entity plays a distinct role, with the public sector stepping in where private entities face limitations, facilitating inventories, sharing new infrastructures, and adapting to new technologies. In Europe, there is an ambitious goal for universal Gigabit access by 2030, backed by comprehensive regulatory initiatives from the European Commission. The unfolding era of technological innovations, such as AI, extends beyond technical aspects to reshape societal paradigms. This evolution encompasses new organizational forms, economic models, welfare state structures, social behaviors, and healthcare organizations. Navigating this transformative journey requires a comprehensive approach, recognizing that achieving a better state for humanity demands our collective commitment, with generosity and equity as one of a few key values.
